Stupid Is As Stupid Does

My humans are stupid. That's the only way to explain what happened on Friday night. I have been very jealous of all you lucky cats who get to go outside. I follow the humans down the stairs trying to escape into the great outdoors. So, they bought me a leash and harness and decide to give it a whirl. They take me to Frank's parent's house because they have a big yard and a deck. Sounds great right? The morons weren't thinking about the fact that other than the big yard, green grass and nice deck, there are also three dogs. Dogs I know, but am a little skittish around. In their excitement to get me outside they put me in the harness, hook up the leash and take me out on the deck. All is well for about four seconds and then boom, dogs get a whiff of little ole me and come running up to see. All of a sudden I turn into something other than myself. I turn into this...

I was a whirlwind of claws and teeth and a real hissing machine. Impressive for someone who never hisses huh? The dogs backed off, most of the humans were frozen in shock. Frank was the one who took action and grabbed me up trying to get me inside. I ripped him apart. Blood ran down in arm in streams and dipped onto the floor inside. I ran down into the basement and hid. It took over a half hour to get me out. Jen was crying, Frank was bleeding and I was pissed. How dumb can they be? Oh sure, they meant well, but couldn't they have given it a little more thought?

We don't get ta go out in da big wurld. We doez haz a big sun porch wif windowz all around and placez fur us ta sit and look outside at da birdies dat momma feeds in da treez. Dat is gud enuff fur us. Last time we wuz outside on da ground waz when we waz abandoned. We don't wanna go dere again...nebber!

  6. Tuck, we're sorry you got so scared! We never go outside either, so we sometimes get frightened by things that are out there even when we're looking out the window.

We hope Frank is OK - he was pretty brave to pick you up!

  7. Oh you POOR TUCK!!!! What an absolute awful experience! We do feel for you. Silly humans! A kitty needs to know a woofie really well before being comfortable gambolling outside with him, as our Sen-Chan used to do with both Tommy and our neighbours' dog, Madrac.

I bet you're sorry about all that blood, though!

    Your Friends,
    Tommy, Tama-Chan and Sei-Chan

  10. Oh noes, Tuck! That all went horribly wrong! Things like this should be taken slowly... but we're sure the humans know that - NOW. We have never met a dog in person and maybe we would react like you. Poor grey bundle of handsomeness!

  12. Goodness, that is a little unplanned I am sure. Your human must've thought that getting you out in the yard is a great adventure which turned out not only disasterous for them but it could have scarred you for life! I am sorry they had to get a taste of your claws but you are just trying to defense yourself.

I hope things have cooled down now and that Frank is not taking it too hard.

  14. Oh Tuck, dogs are such bad news. They should have known that they would upset you. At my age (and I'm next to 100) my Mom can talk me down. But she couldn't when I was younger, she used to get the hose out and squirt the dogs to make them go away. That was the only pleasure I had with dogs back then.

  15. I turned into the same things and clawed the Sh@t out of Daddy once too!! Poor Mr Tuck! It isn't your fault you were just really scared and off guard.

  16. You have to place proper blame here, Tuck. The real culprits are the woofies. Focus all of your wrath onto them!

  17. Nope, you cannot walk the Tazmanian Devil. Hope it all gets sorted out & you get to do walkies.

  18. Oh, poor you! We agree with T&C's post that it's really the woofs that are at fault. We hope that Frank is ok and put neosporin on those scratches! Next time, just try wearing the harness around the house so you associate it with good things from now on. Then, once you're comfortable again with it, you can have them attach the leash and see if you can tolerate YOUR yard or something around YOUR house.

Although, our angel Lydia had a very bad experience on her harness and never let it be worn again. But she went walkabout for two days while wearing it, so that's a little different.

We hope next time wearing the harness is a better experience for all involved!

  20. Tuck, I don't go outside either and I definitely don't like woofies. I hope Frank wounds heal quickly.

  21. So sorry you got all scared Tuck, we don't blame you. We don't go out very often at all, usually we go out and get herded right back in. If there were woofies running at us, we'd probably act the same way Tuck, don't worry. We hope you get to walk on your harness and leash soon.

  23. I think that your humans learned a valuable lesson, though very painfully. I hope that they try the harness and leash again, but at your house with no woofies around.

  24. I'm very sorry to hear about your incident with the dogs, Tuck. I'm glad you're alright, though, and it sounds like your humans were only trying to do something nice for you. If we never had those kind of experiences, we'd never learn and become better pets, owners, or people. ;)

  25. Tuck, I feel so sorry for you! I find woofies scary too. I do hope this has not put you off the leash and harness. Maybe you could try it in a more protected area. I really like it when I'm on my leash in our court. Hope it'll work out for you - and that your Frank wasn't hurt too much.
