Mancat Monday: Give Back My Furs!

My humans stole my furs! I've heard of this horrible practice from friends, but I had never experienced it. Then this weekend, my humans stole them from me.

In the beginning, I didn't know what they were doing and it seemed nice.

I even stretched out and was enjoying it.

Then, I looked over, saw how they were collecting my furs and I started to get suspicious.

I knew I had to do something about it.

So I began to fight for my furs. They wouldn't steal any more of them without a battle.

It was an epic match, but in the end I was outnumbered by the humans.

When it was over, I mourned by furs by rolling in them. My humans are evil.

As promised, I have a couple more photos my human took at BlogPaws. I am highly annoyed that she didn't take more. She got to meet several of your moms and where are the photos?? She didn't have the camera with her half the time...such a moron!

Here is my human holding Flat Skeezix. Seriously, she is a such a dork, how is it that she gets to meet Flat Skeezix and I don't?

This is a picture of Romeo's mom, Jen, Donna (from Lipsticking blog) and the Mewmie from FurryDance.

She thought she had a group shot of all the cat bloggers, but then remembered that it wasn't on her camera. Hopefully, someone else will post that photo and she can borrow it! But she got to meet so many cool people at BlogPaws including: Mom Robyn, Parker's Mommy, Baby Patches' Mommy, Skeezix's Food Lady, the Mom from Furry Bambinos and the Mom from Meir Cats.

She had lunch with Baby Patches' mom and they talked all about the blogs and us kitties too of course! Then, on Saturday night, she hung out at the bar until late at night talking to the Mewmie from FurryDance! Such a great time! She hopes to see all of you at BlogPaws 2011!!

Back From BlogPaws!

My human is back from BlogPaws! She told me all about it and it sounds absolutely amazing. I demanded to go purrsonally next year. She said we'll see. Apparently, I need to learn how to walk on the leash and not hide from new people...I'll try to work on that...

Jen got to meet some of my furriends and some moms too! She met Brighton and Disco from FurryDance. She was so excited to meet them!

Everybody wanted to pet Brighton! Disco had hopped back up in the Pink Catillac...

Disco and Brighton (and their Mewmie Teri) sent me a swag bag. Thanks guys! You rock!

As you can see, I couldn't wait to check it out!

Jen has some photos of the awesome cat blogger moms she met, but we will share those tomorrow...they deserve their own post!

BlogPaws 2010 sounds like it was so much fun. There were fantastic speakers and seminars (Jen actually spoke at one...can you imagine...my human talking in front of people? She promised that she did not embarrass me and that she did show everyone a handsome, mancatly photo of me!) I told my human that now she is armed with knowledge on how to make my blog better that I'm expecting her to step it up a notch...no more of this slacking nonsense!

So stay tuned tomorrow when we post about all the humans that we (I mean Jen, because I wasn't allowed to go) met at the conference!

ManCat Monday: Carried in Style

My humans bought me a new carrier. My old one was bulky and plastic. Not a good fit for a mancat like me. Especially considering Jen couldn't carry me in it without banging it into a wall or something. I did not like that. It was time for a change.

I inspected all the corners. I had to make sure it was sturdy.

The carrier is an interesting shape. It could double as a tent, but my humans aren't smart enough to think of that.

It does smell nice. It has that new carrier smell. Ahhh...mine, all mine.

It's nice to rub the face up against.

I personally think I should be carried around on a throne all the time, but this will do for now. It's a start...

This is hard work. Maybe, I'll just lay down for a second and rest. (Or at least that's what they think...really, I know that this is the purrfect opportunity for a great hand attack.)

Hey, what are you doing? Let me go, I wasn't going to attack you, I was just tired...c'mon dude, don't be so suspicious!

Now see, you have forced me to put the bitey on you. We'll see if I ever try to help you again. You humans are on your own. Forget you.

A Terrible Story...Help Needed

I just read the most horrible story in my local newspaper. State officials in New Jersey are considering banning TNR in local communities. Instead, the New Jersey Fish and Game Council wants to make it legal to HUNT feral cats. That's right, the politicians in this upstanding state I live in, want to give hunters the right to shoot cats. I'm so angry about this I can barely speak. The thought of these poor cats, who are already forced to live their lives in the elements, being shot just for fun breaks my heart. Here is a quote from the story:

Jeannette Vreeland, acting chair of the Fish and Game Council, asked in 2007 if feral cats could be added to the list of animals that could be hunted, according to council meeting minutes. This week she defended the 2007 resolution.
"When a cat is left to roam outside the house it becomes a character who kills birds and small mammals -- rabbits, chipmunks,'' she said on Thursday. "It's really not a natural, native animal. They are exotic and not meant to be outdoors.''

The Humane Society, ASPCA and several other animal welfare organizations have sent letters condemning this proposal, but I'm afraid it won't be enough. The Fish and Game Council has their next meeting on April 13th. I'm asking that you all help me by emailing or writing to the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife to let them know that this proposal in unacceptable. The contact information is below.

Workin' for a Livin'

It's been a crazy few weeks over at my neighborhood. My human always works late hours, but suddenly, she was working very late hours...she was up and out early and not home until very late. A big project she said. When she was home, I only wanted to cuddle with her. Then suddenly, she packed a bag and was off to this place...

Thankfully, it was a quick trip. She left late Monday evening and was back in Jersey on Wednesday morning! She said it was very exhausting and all she wanted to do was sleep. Back to work that same day though!

Then there was a cold...too much work makes my human sick, I think. Now, it appears that things are returning to normal. I hope at least! I think I'll have a little weed to celebrate...

I'm very excited...want to know why? Because my human is going to BlogPaws!! (I'd be a little more excited if I got to go, but apparently there will not be any beds to hide under and plenty of people I don't know.)

BlogPaws is the first ever conference for pet bloggers. It's being held in Columbus, OH on April 9th and 10th. Jen was going to go no matter what, but one of her clients at work is now going to be a sponsor, so she said that she is twice as excited now.

For everyone who doesn't know, BlogPaws is a chance for pet bloggers to meet face-to-face and then join in discussions about their pets, blogging and how to make a difference in the world. And speaking of making a difference, attendees get to vote on their favorite rescue charity and the top two will receive all the profits from the conference!

My human has been so very, very lazy. Not sick, just incompetent. She said she wass busy at work and then busy shopping. Now, she has gone away. So I am dictating this blog to her from many miles away. I have so much to tell, but will start with sweet, sweet justice. My West Virginia cousin helped punish my human for being such a bad blogger. When I told him about what she was doing, he promised to get her back. And oh boy, did he. Yesterday, he climbed up on her pink duffel bag and left her a little present. I'm so happy that it's finally Friday! And even happier that I can now upload pictures again!

I discovered a great toy...if any toy inventors are reading this you should replicate it so that it doesn't break!

The humans ordered Chinese food the other night. And while they were eating, I snatched away a great toy.

That's right...it's a fortune cookie! It's the perfect shape to bat around, it makes a great crinklely noise and it's light enough to carry around in my mouth. It breaks up pretty quickly though...such a shame!

I tried putting the fortune cookie into my food dish, but the humans said it's not for kitties to eat.

I tried to tell them that this fortune said "Always listen to the great wise gray one that will come into your life," unfortunately they didn't buy it.

Feral Cat Day!

Today is National Feral Cat Day...a day to raise awareness for the millions of feral cats living in America. As a former feral myself, this is a very special day for me. There are so many cats without home, who are living on the streets and just trying to survive. Today is to remember them.

This is one of the first pictures taken of my when I came home. You can see my infected ear from where it was clipped. Even though it hurt a little, I'm hoping that more and more feral kitties out there end up with an ear tip...that means there will be fewer babies on the street. To all my brothers and sisters on the outside...this one's for you!

ManCat Monday: Listen Closely

Oh human, look closely into my laser eyes. You must be getting sleepy....your eyes are getting heavy. Do you hear me human? Excellent. Now, listen closely to what I have to say. It is very impawtant.

I am getting tired of being woken up because you like to cuddle. I am lying on your feet because you are covered up with the electric blanket. It's warm and fuzzy. If you want to move your feet and leave me the blanket, that would be fine. You will no longer pick me up and hold me unless I ask you to.

This picture is the purrfect example of how things should be. I'm warm, comfy and cozy here on the blanket. All was well here until you took my picture. You will stop flashing me while I am sleeping. It's annoying and it wakes me up. How would you like it if I made lots of noise or scratched your feet while you are sleeping...oh yeah, umm, nevermind. Forget I said that last part. Anyway, you will stop flashing me.

So here are my demands:

Stop flashing me while sleeping

Leave me alone when I'm on the electric blanket, actually, just leave the electric blanket for me. You don't need it
Give me more treats. I deserve them for putting up with you
Stop yelling at me when I paw at the TV
Give me more treats, oh yeah...I said that already...but make sure you do it

OK, look at my laser eyes one more time.

Now wake up...and go get me some treats

Project 2996: Never Forget

Eight years ago America, as we knew it, changed forever. We became a more cautious nation; always looking over our shoulder and always on alert. We also became more patriotic; more fiercely loyal to those who lay their lives on the line to defend us. Eight years ago, we were attacked on our own soil. Today, we remember. We remember the ones who lost their lives in those towers, in the planes, in the Pentagon, in that field in Pennsylvania. We remember the sorrow and the anger.

Today, we are participating in Project 2996, which was created to remind us all of the people who were killed on 9/11. Every participating blogger is assigned a name of a victim and is to research the life of that person then post a tribute to them. The terrorists will never win, because we will never forget.

This post is in honor of Adriana Legro. This beautiful, vibrant woman was 32-years-old on Sept. 11, 2001. The youngest of four children of Colombian immigrants, Adriana was the only one in her family to graduate college. Known as the “achiever” in the family, she worked as an institutional sales broker at Carr Futures on the 92^nd floor of the second tower. Her family last heard from her after the first plane hit the towers. Her body was not found. She is still listed among the missing.

Adriana is more than just a name and number on the list of victims. She was a young woman with hopes and dreams. A woman who worked hard at her career, but every night went home to Elmhurst, Queens to take care of her 92-year-old grandmother. Friends say that Adriana seized each day. She wasn’t one to sit around and complain about life. She loved to travel, meet new people, try new things. Her sister describes her as “bon vivant” -- “always the life of the party.” In February, 2001, Adriana ran her first ever marathon with Road Runners. Then, on a bright blue September morning, she was gone.

Adriana Legro left behind her grandmother, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and her Pekingese Lucky.

Feelin' AWESOME on Friday!

I was tagged by my pals The Kitty Krew last week to play the awesome game. I'm supposed to give 7 reasons why I'm awesome and then tag others to play. The hardest part of this game is narrowing the reasons down to just 7!

I'm awesome because:

I'm an official Mancat now. I took my training seriously and learned many impawtant lessons along the way!
I can catch flies like a character from the movie Karate Kid. I catch them between my paws. And then I eat them. Yummy!
I can wake my humans from a deep sleep by playing THoE and knocking things over. And if all else fails I attack their feet.
I love to cuddle with my humans and I can admit it!
I scare off the birds that gather outside my window
I have claimed an entire loveseat for myself!
And last, but certainly not least, I'm awesome because, well...I'm a CAT and we are all awesome!

It's My Birthday!

I am finally a ManCat!! I was so surprised when I woke up this morning and saw that we are all set for a pawty! So all of you come on over...we have lots of good stuff...

There a fine vintage catnip wine sent to me by my furriends Maggy and Zoey (and their human Ann)...anycat want a glass? These sweet ladies also helped Jen decorate for the pawty...doesn't it look great?

And of course we have ham...

And turkey...

And Salmon...

There's lettuce for those of you kitties that love the green stuff...

For dessert we have vanilla ice cream...my favorite!

For all the ManCats and LadyCats, we have niptinis...

And then milk for the kittens...

And for everycat we have catnip bubbles...yay!

A New Furriend

Happy Friday! I want to introduce you all to a new furriend! As many of you know, Drebin still hasn't come home. Drebin's human has put up flyers, offered awards, searched the neighborhood and visited the shelter many times. He is still holding out hope that Drebin will return. In the meantime, during one of those trips to the shelter he walked past the cage of a little kitten who looked up at him and reached his little paw outside of the cage to him. The next time he went back looking for Drebin that kitten was still there, still waiting for a human to call his own. So Drebin's human decided to give him a furever home. And now, that kitten named Oliver has started a blog! Please stop by and visit the little guy and please keep purring that Drebin comes home to meet his new brother!

Mancat (In Training) Monday: Defending My Territory

Today, I report on my final lesson as a Mancat in Training. Next Monday is my graduation and I will finally make my dream come true! So today I will tell you of my most important lesson...the importance of defending your territory. Some will try to attack you and take away what is yours, but you must defend it!

See, I was innocently sitting inside my cubes when suddenly this feather toy appeared. It was trying to invade...

So I gave the toy a little bite to show it who is in charge around these parts.

It went away briefly, as if stunned that I put up a fight. I knew that I must stay alert. It could return at any moment.
Sure enough, the toy again tried to conquer my cubes. I whapped it and showed off my fierce talons, but it still did not learn.
Then, I was forced to use Tuck's jaws of fury. Recognizing defeat, the feather wand retreated. But I know it will return one day...and I will be ready. I have had many long months of training and am ready for my mancat responsibilities. I will defend my cube castle. Perhaps I will request that the humans refer to me as Sir Tuck from now on...

Best Litter in the World...Seriously

For the past month or so I have been testing out World's Best Cat Litter. I was a little doubtful when Jen first brought it home. We have tried several different litters, but there's a reason that I am called Stinky McTuck around this place. Extra strength, Multi-Cat...none of those have held up to me.

Then she brings home this bag of litter and tells me that it's all natural; made just of corn. Hmmm, not so sure but what the heck, I'll give it a try. Then all of a sudden, Jen and Frank stopped yelling and covering their faces when I came out of the litter box. This stuff really does work! There are a few things that kitties have to get use to with this litter...it feels a little different on the paws, but it's kinda nice. Also, for all of you that like to drag litter outside of the box, it's not as easy with World's Best Cat Litter.

Jen and I both like the fact that the litter is only made of corn. So it's completely safe and doesn't have all that gross dust when you open the bag and pour it into the litter box. I told Jen that she isn't allowed to come home with anything other than World's Best Cat Litter from now on. After all, don't I deserve the best? I'm a cat! Besides...that cat on the bag looks a little like me!

Mancat (In Training) Monday: Everything is a Toy

I have many toys, but I don't always want to play with them. Those are the times when I go exploring. I have found that just about anything in this apartment can be a toy if I want it to be. Take for example this little candle display...

See all the rocks pushed to one side? When Jen went to bed the rocks were scattered all around the candles. During the night I pushed them all to one corner. They look better that way I think.

Then, I discovered that I can use my paw to push the rocks out of the dish.

You have to select the perfect rock though!

This one looks just right!

Knock the rock onto the floor...

And it's a great toy. It rolls around easily and makes lots of noise on the floor, so it's sure to wake up anyone that may be sleeping!

My Visitors are Gone

I've had visitors the last few days. Jen's parents and nephew came up to visit. I spent the first day they were here hiding under the bed. After that, I realized that they weren't so bad. The adult humans would pet me, but the little human was different; I was scared of him. He wanted to play with me and hold me, but there was just something different about him. He was small and was always running and jumping. It made me a little nervous. I did let him get a picture with me his last night here though. Then he chased me when I jumped down. I slept all day yesterday after they left. I was just exhausted...

See, I let him hold me long enough for a picture, but that was it.

After I jumped down, he followed me. I did like him even though he made me nervous. He spent a lot of time letting me chase my laser mouse!

World Cat Day

Happy World Cat Day!! This is a special day to celebrate all of us fabulous felines and remember those who are at the bridge.

In my honor, Jen has posted her favorite picture of me. She said it shows my true personality. I admit, I like to cuddle.

I would like to mention a few that came before me who Jen is thinking about today. She had kitties when she was growing up. Tuffy, Puff, Dizzy and Boo were all very special cats who are waiting at the Bridge. Jen doesn't have any pictures on her computer to share, but I know that they were all lovely. Tuffy and Boo were black cats, while Puff and Dizzy were Meezers.

So to all of you kitties, and to all of you humans thinking of those that came before us, I wish you a Happy World Cat Day!!

Mancat (In Training) Monday: I'm Everywhere

I make it my mission to be everywhere that my humans are in the apartment. If they are in the kitchen, I'm on the microwave. The living room? I'll hang in the window, or my hammock or behind the TV. So yesterday, Jen was changing the sheets. She opened the cedar chest, briefly walked out of the room and bam, there I am; sitting in the cedar chest when she returns. It's very important to keep tabs on the humans at all times. That are very sneaky. You never know what they are going to do.

It's only four more weeks until I become a mancat!!

P.S. Thank you all for your purrs for Drebin. Please keep them going. He's still not home...

Purrs Needed!

I need a favor! I need all of my furiends to cross their paws and purr for Drebin. Jen works with Drebin's human and he called her yesterday with some bad news. Drebin snuck out the front door on Wednesday afternoon and he isn't home yet. His human is so worried about him. He has put up posters and is out looking for him. Mom Meme

So the rules of the meme are:

First, here's a photo that was taken last weekend at a balloon festival. No idea why we decided to have the picture taken with the line of PortaPottys in the background.

1. I was born and raised in West Virginia and moved to New Jersey after college. I still miss home.

2. I'll be 30 in a few months. I'm really dreading it. I spent the first few years in my 20s wishing for 30 because I thought it sounded respectable. In the last three years I realized that I'm not ready to be done with the 20s yet.

3. I love to read and I do it freakishly fast. Sometimes I'll read three or four books in a day (If I have the books and nothing else to do.) I even reread books if I'm really desperate. My favorites are Harry Potter, the Sookie Stackhouse series and mystery books.

4. If I'm in a really bad mood, or despressed, I like to bake. There's something comforting about it.

5. I love the beach, but hate the ocean. I watched Jaws too many times when I was young. I have this unrealistic idea that if I go in the water above my knees that I'm done for. I also can't stay on the beach for too long. I start to blister.

6. I don't watch many television shows. I love True Blood and American Idol, but other than that I stick with HGTV and the Food Network.

7. I grew up wanting to be a teacher, ended up graduating with a degree in print journalism and spent a year as a newspaper reporter before I switched careers.

Mancat (In Training) Monday: The Countdown Begins

For many months I have been training for the day when I begin a real mancat. I have learned my lessons, both good and bad and have been given invaluable advice from many of you mancats out there. And now, I have only six more weeks to train before my dream becomes a reality! I'm feral, so we don't know my exact birthday, but Jen is sure that I was born sometime in August. So we have decided to celebrate my purrthday on August 31st. On that day I will become a mancat. I am so excited! I hope these next six weeks go by quickly!

Yeah, I'm talkin' to you. I know what you are doing. I see the bags you have packed. I watched you as you searched for beach bags and towels. I sniffed the sunscreen. You are leaving me. I'm staying behind while you head to the beach. You worked long hours all week, were too tired to help me blog and now you're leaving me. When you come back on Tuesday maybe I won't be here. Perhaps, I will find humans that appreciate me and deserve such a fine mancat (almost). Just don't be surprised if I don't come running to you when you get back. I have better things to do than wait for you. Like throw up a hairball or clean my bum.

I'm a little, ok, maybe a lot, annoyed with my humans today. Yesterday was Wednesday, meaning I should have posted a Wordless Wednesday picture. But my human refused to assist me. She made some lame excuse about having to catch a 4:30 am train. Then, she claimed to be too tired last night to help me visit my friends. What is she good for? Does anyone have a useful human they can loan me?

Mancat (In Training) Monday: Make Your Own Happiness

Sometimes, a mancat has to make his own happiness. For example, I love watching the birds outside of the kitchen window. However, there are times that I just want to stretch out.

So, I discovered that by breaking off pieces of the blinds, I can lay on top of the microwave and still see out the window.

See my peephole? It was a genius idea!

Now, I stretch out and can still see everything.

I certainly have made myself happy...not so sure that Jen and Frank are pleased with the broken blinds though!

Sometimes a mancat just needs to relax. I needed to rest, as my training can be very exhausting. So what's better than sleeping? Sleeping next to a toy of course. I can open my eyes, bat it around and then go back to sleep.

Does it get any better than this? Well, maybe if I had a bowl of treats next to me...

It's supposed to rain all day today. What's a kitty to do? The birds aren't singing today, the sun's not shining and I have no motivation. Maybe I'll just sleep all day!

I wanted to address some of the comments from yesterday's Wordless post. Yes, I was hanging upside down. I had been cuddling with Jen on the couch when suddenly I decided to have some fun. I leaned back, stretched out and tried to see if I could touch the floor. Frank took some pictures of it. Notice the purple blanket? Jen keeps that on the loveseat because other than my hammock it's my favorite place to sleep.

Don't forget that tomorrow is International Box Day!!

I'm going to go find a place to sleep the day away. If any of you cats see the sun can you send it my way?

Mancat (In Training) Monday: Saying Thank You

Over the last few months, I have learned the importance of saying thank you. I thank Jen and Frank every day for giving me a furever home. I cuddle with them, give the headbutts and just remind them how much I love them both.

But today is about saying thank you to some friends. My good friends Franklin, Dobby and Tasha ran a giveaway on their site and I was the winner. I got the package on Friday and was SO excited!!

This was all the great stuff in the box I received!

I had to inspect everything.

As many of you know, I love lettuce. Until recently it was my favorite treat. That is, until I discovered a yummy little breakfast snack. I always try to steal milk when my humans are having cereal, but the other day I got a whiff of something else. Something delicious. What was it you ask? I'll show you.

That's right. Multigrain Cheerios. I don't like them too much when they are dry, but after they soak up a little milk they become little o's of goodness.

I eat them...

And eat some more, until the humans and I finish the bowl. I think they should give me my own bowl, but Jen said something about not wanting to clean up the aftermath. Whatever that means.

On another note, I found out this week that I won the giveaway sponsored by my good friends Franklin, Dobby and Tasha (and their human Katie)! I am so excited to be the winner! I will be sure to post pictures when the package arrives! My friends have inspired me to do my own giveaway. I feel like I should return the favor. So stay tuned. I'm sending Jen out to the pet store this weekend to pick up some cool stuff!

Mancat (In Training) Monday: It's All About Balance

Many of you experienced mancats have taught me the importance of balance. While I am the mancat (almost) of the house, it's important to balance my training activities with a bit of sweetness. No matter what I do at night or early in the mornings, I always take the time to snuggle with the humans when they get home from work. The first thing I do when one of them walk in is to run over and start pawing at their legs. Then, they pick me up and cuddle with me. This always makes them forget anything I have done which annoyed them.

On Friday, I curled up in Jen's lap when she got home from work.

I got some chin rubs out of it!
